Where to find my contacts?
Just signed up and got this request to put my two pence in. So there we go: how do I find people I already know? And how to contact with others?

Go to your icon and click. A dropdown should appear. Click on your name or the icon. Either will take you to your profile. You can also navigate to your profile directly with the url: people.sap.com.
There you should see both the people who follow you and those which you follow. Click on their names and you should open a page with a button to Send a Message. Please give this a try and let us know if you were able to make it work. Send a Message may be restricted to those people who follow you.
